As a nurse practitioner and the owner of Coastal IV Therapy and Urgent Care, I understand the struggles of losing weight. The journey to weight loss is different for everyone, and what works for one person may not work for another. However, I am excited to introduce a weight loss medication that has been effective for countless patients, semaglutide.
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that aids in weight loss by reducing gastric emptying, which means you will feel fuller longer. It also helps regulate appetite by targeting an area in the brain responsible for this. Semaglutide is available under the brand names Wegovy and Ozempic and is administered once a week via injection under the skin in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.
In studies for weight loss, semaglutide has helped people lose 10-15% of their body mass. For a 200-pound person, this is 20-30 pounds of weight loss.
All appointments are via video telehealth unless you prefer an in-home visit. At your first appointment, we will go over your health history, medical allergies, and weight loss goals. We will give you instructions on how to administer the medication and provide a video for reference if needed. We will order semaglutide for you, and within a day or two, the pharmacy will call you to confirm your address and ship out the medication. The medication will arrive on cold packs and must be stored in the refrigerator. Once you receive the medication, you can give yourself your first dose. We will follow up with you at least monthly and up to weekly depending on your needs. We will tailor this program to your needs as everyone's weight loss journey is different.
